Guillermo Carvajal Alegría
Guillermo Carvajal Alegría is a professor of rheumatology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tours, France. He completed his medical degree at Paris-Sud XI University (now Paris-Saclay) and pursued residency training in rheumatology in Brest. Following a fellowship there, he was appointed associate professor in 2021 and promoted to full professor in 2025 at the University of Tours. He earned a PhD in immunology, focusing on the role of interleukin-6 in the pathophysiology of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) and the effects of interleukin-6 blockade on disease activity, systemic inflammation, and bone turnover. He serves on the steering committees of both the French Society of Rheumatology (SFR) and the French College of Teaching Rheumatology (COFER), and is also a member of an Emerging EULAR Network (EMEUNET) subcommittee.
