DES4Skin (Formulations based on natural deep eutectic solvents for skincare)

DES4Skin

Summary

The natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) are green solvents that allow for the selective and efficient extraction of molecules of interest from plants or algae. These solvents can themselves be composed of products and by-products from biomass biorefinery. The DES4Skin project proposes to use NaDES as the basic excipient for complex cosmetic products. A consortium consisting of 4 laboratories, from the NMNS department of CBM, SIMBA (University of Tours), IGPS (University Paris-Saclay), and URCOM (University Le Havre Normandy), will assess the potential of NaDES in compliance with European cosmetic regulations in terms of physico-chemical, rheological, sensory properties, as well as efficacy and tolerance. These developments align with the current transition of the cosmetic industry towards natural and sustainable practices. All knowledge and skills developed during this project can be transferred to the field of dermatology.
