Jean-Marc Bonmatin co-author of an article on water contamination in France by imidacloprid (neonicotinoid insecticide)

The article published in Science Of The Total Environment (impact factor 8.0) shows that the insecticide imidacloprid, the archetype of neonicotinoids, contaminates water in France. The use of imidacloprid (banned since 2018) was more widespread in northern and western France, where cereals and sugarbeet are the main crops. Water analyses indicate that imidacloprid has contaminated the environment and increased the risk to biodiversity. These results help to identify priority areas for mitigation and restoration measures.
